To establish and maintain India's premier animal stem cell repository by collecting, preserving, and providing diverse, high-quality, well-characterized animal stem cell lines to support biological research and biotechnological innovation.
To become a leading hub for animal stem cell research in South Asia, ensuring reliable access to a wide range of stem cell resources while fostering collaboration and advancing cutting-edge scientific discoveries.
The Animal Stem Cell Biobank (ASCB) is mandated by the BIRAC, to fulfil the following strategic objectives:
Create and maintain a comprehensive national repository of animal stem cell lines from livestock, poultry, and wildlife species for research and conservation purposes.
Ensure rigorous quality control and characterization of all deposited stem cell lines through morphological, molecular, and functional assessments following ISO standards.
Provide authenticated stem cell lines to accredited research institutes and universities under Material Transfer Agreements (MTA) to accelerate biological research.
Operate with full compliance to CCSEA, IAEC, IBSC and DBT biosafety guidelines ensuring all stem cell lines are ethically sourced and handled responsibly.
Preserve genetic diversity of endangered and threatened animal species through cryopreservation of stem cells for future conservation biotechnology applications.
Conduct training programs, workshops, and collaborative projects to build national capacity in stem cell science, biotechnology, and biobanking methodologies.
